Many DC Extended Universe fans have wondered about how that world’s version of Robin died. Zack Snyder finally provided a bit of an answer for those fans, giving a bit of information about the death of the DCEU Robin.
How did Robin die in the DCEU?
A fan at the SnyderCon 2023 screening of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition asked the director about the events leading up to and culminating in the death of the DCEU Robin. Snyder didn’t want to give too much away in case it ended up being a “spoiler,” but he hinted at how Batman’s sidekick met his end.
“I’ll do a brief one because I think that’s still something that would be cool for people see at some point — I don’t know when or ever. So I don’t want to ruin it entirely. It may never happen,” Snyder said. “To hurt Batman … at that point, his real vulnerability was Robin, right? What’s obvious is that the Joker understood that.
“All I’ll say is that … clearly he [the Joker] blew him [Robin] up, or it looks like he burned [or] scorched him. Beyond that, I really don’t want to say the actual circumstances because I feel like it’s a spoiler for maybe a thing that will never be spoiled that we should wait to see … “
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice first released in 2016. Directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer, the movie would go on to receive a director’s cut release, which had an R rating and a longer runtime than the theatrical cut by 31 minutes. The first trailer showed Bruce Wayne looking at a damaged and vandalized Robin suit that he keeps in a case, which led fans to question the fate of the DCEU Robin.
