Sam Raimi’s name has consistently popped up as one that could potentially direct the 2027 film Avengers: Secret Wars. If it were up to Raimi, he’d love to do it as well.
Speaking to ScreenGeek at this year’s WonderCon, Raimi was asked about the constant rumors he’s attached to it when it comes to filming the movie. Raimi was quick to praise the world of Marvel, and said that while he hasn’t been formally asked, he’d love to be.
“I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books,” said Raimi. “I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do.”
Raimi is no stranger to the world of Marvel movies, having directed the original Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s, and then joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe by directing 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Originally scheduled to release in 2025, the Secret Wars film is now estimated to release sometime in 2027.
When will Avengers: Secret Wars come out?
Following Avengers 5’s theatrical debut on May 1, 2026, Secret Wars will arrive in theaters on May 7, 2027. Both movies currently have no directors attached to them yet, as Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton recently announced his exit from Avengers 5.
Secret Wars is the sixth installment to the blockbuster Avengers films. It is expected to conclude Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6 and The Multiverse Saga. Fans have long been awaiting news of a potential live-action adaptation of the iconic comic book series, which sees various Marvel heroes and villains being taken by a cosmic entity known as The Beyonder, where they then fight it out on a planet called Battleworld.
