Star Wars: The Acolyte Premiere Sets New Disney+ Record

The two-episode series premiere on Lucasfilm‘s latest Star Wars series, The Acolyte, has set a new Disney+ viewership record.

How many watched the Star Wars: The Acolyte premiere?

Star Wars: The Acolyte premiered on Disney+ on June 4 with its first two episodes, “Lost/Found” and “Revenge/Justice.” According to the streamer (via TVLine), The Acolyte’s two-episode premiere received 4.8 million views during its first day of streaming. This was enough for The Acolyte to become Disney+’s most-viewed series premiere of 2024, based on first-day totals.

After five days on the platform, The Acolyte’s premiere viewership has grown to 11.1 million, cementing its place as the biggest series premiere of the year. For comparison, the last live-action Star Wars show, Ahsoka, delivered 14 million views back in August 2023 over its first five days on Disney+. It is worth mentioning that Disney+ defines a “view” as total stream time divided by runtime.

Star Wars: The Acolyte is written and executive produced by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), who also serves as the showrunner. Set at the end of the High Republic era, roughly 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode 1, The Acolyte begins with “an investigation into a shocking crime spree” that “pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg).” The synopsis continues, “As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…”

Besides Lee as Jedi Master Sol and Stenberg as twins Osha and Mae Aniseya, The Acolyte stars Charlie Barnett as Jedi Knight Yord Fandar, Dafne Keen as Padawan Jecki Lon, Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra Rwoh, Jodie Turner-Smith as Mother Aniseya, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jedi Master Indara, Manny Jacinto as Qimir, Dean-Charles Chapman as Jedi Master Torbin, and Joonas Suotamo as Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca.

The first two episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte are currently streaming on Disney+, with subsequent episodes set to drop weekly every Tuesday until July 16.
