Report: Blade Director Still Working on Marvel Movie Despite Past Exit

Marvel’s much-awaited project Blade featuring Mahershala Ali has been subjected to numerous troubles since its announcement. However, recently it has been revealed that French director Yann Demange, who previously left Blade, is reportedly still attached to the project. The movie that is expecting a 2025 release has been a target of multiple delays and writing issues, thus making MCU enthusiasts impatient and worried about its fate.

Demange became a part of Mahershala Ali’s Blade after the exit of its initial director Bassim Tariq in 2022. Since the movie’s announcement in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con, Ali has been holding the role of Marvel’s vampire hunter but the directors seem to keep changing. In June 2024, it was confirmed in a report by Deadline that Demange also made an exit from the project. But since the exit update, there has been no official confirmation from Marvel about Demange’s current status and association with Blade.

Apart from the problem of directors leaving the project, Blade has also faced a crisis with writers. The movie’s script has also gone through certain rewrites, with the new writer Eric Pearson reportedly working on it now.

Recently, Wesley Snipes, who played the character of Blade in the old trilogy, reprised his role in Deadpool & Wolverine for a cameo appearance. Giving his input on the constant delays with directors and writers leaving that Blade (2025) is facing, Snipes told Entertainment Weekly, “I shouted him (Mahershala Ali) out, told him he’s got all my blessings and support. I even referenced the fact that some of the challenges they’re facing now with the project, it shouldn’t be accredited to him.”

“It’s not the actor’s fault. There’s a lot more that goes on with pulling this Blade stuff off. You need a lot of secret sauce to do the Blade thing, man,” he added.
