Last night, Netflix abruptly canceled Daredevil, only a month after Luke Cage and Iron Fist got the ax as well. Earlier this morning, Marvel released an official statement that thanked the cast, the showrunners, and the fans for Daredevil‘s three season run. Marvel also emphasized that there may be “more adventures” for Daredevil “in the future.”
“Marvel is extremely grateful to the huge audience that loved Marvel’s Daredevil. From the moment of young Matt’s first act of heroism to the birth of Page, Murdock, & Nelson, it has been a unbelievable journey. We are incredibly proud of the amazing showrunners and writers starting with Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight, Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie and Erik Oleson, Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Vincent D’Onofrio and our casts who brought our characters to life with such excellence, and every one of the fantastic crews in NYC. We look forward to more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future.”

The official Daredevil twitter account also struck a hopeful note with an image of the reunited trio of Nelson, Murdock, and Page from the third season.

But where could Daredevil and his friends resurface? The new Disney+ streaming service or Hulu are probably the most likely destinations for any potential TV revival. Although the more adult tone of Daredevil would probably have to be toned down for Disney+. Also, Netflix will retain the rights to the first three seasons of Daredevil for at least the duration of its deal with Marvel and Disney. Deadline‘s initial report also described a Daredevil movie as “unlikely.” However, it’s still something that we’d love to see.
