Amazon Renews The Expanse and Carnival Row

At Comic-Con, Amazon announced an early renewal for its new superhero series, The Boys. However, that show isn’t be the only genre series to get a new season. Via Deadline, Amazon revealed that The Expanse has been given a fifth season order. Carnival Row was also renewed for a second season ahead of its premiere on August 30.

Syfy ran three seasons of The Expanse before abruptly cancelling it last year. Amazon rescued the series with a fourth season, which hits Amazon Prime on December 13. Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck created the series in 2011 with their novel, Leviathan Awakes. Their fourth novel, Cibola Burn, is the primary inspiration for the current season. It picks up after the third season finale created gates to several uncharted inhabitable planets in the universe.

René Echevarria and Travis Beacham created Carnival Row, which is a neo-noir fantasy series. The story follows “mythical creatures who have fled their war-torn homeland and gathered in the city.” There’s also a murder investigation which ignites tensions that “are simmering between citizens and the growing immigrant population.” Orlando Bloom stars in the series as Rycroft Philostrate. Cara Delevingne is also co-headlining the show as Vignette Stonemoss, a refugee faerie.

Additionally, the horror anthology series Lore was canceled Amazon after two seasons. It was based upon Aaron Mahnke’s popular podcast of the same name. Amazon confirmed the series’ fate at the Television Critics Association Press Tour.
