The Mandalorian Co-Star Gina Carano Believed She Was Cast As a Wookiee

Last week, former MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano made her Star Wars debut in The Mandalorian. Carano plays Cara Dune, a former Rebel soldier/mercenary who aligns herself with the Mandalorian and the Child. However, Carano recently revealed that she didn’t expect such an important role. In fact, she thought she was going to be a Wookie.

“I thought I was going to be like the female Chewbacca,” said Carano during an interview with Vanity Fair. “I was ready to put on the fur outfit and be the female version of that. That’s what I thought. I was surprised to find that I was one of the few people that you were actually going to see her face —and in a lot of scenes, sometimes the only face, which is pretty incredible.”

Additionally, Carano credits The Mandalorian for reigniting her passion for acting. More importantly, Carano feels that she has finally found her place in the industry.

“I’ve been pretty much like a loner walking my own path and carving my own way and just finding my way around in this business,” noted Carano. “This feels incredible because I’ve never really, really belonged anywhere.”

The Mandalorian season 1 will continue on Fridays on Disney+.
