DC Universe has just shared the first major bit of casting for Doom Patrol’s upcoming second season. Via TVLine, Abigail Shapiro has signed on to play Dorothy Spinner, the daughter of Timothy Dalton’s Niles Caulder (a.k.a. The Chief).
Shapiro doesn’t have many screen credits to her name. She has only appeared in two Broadway-related shorts: Broadway Kids Against Bullying: I Have a Voice and Broadway Supports Lihsa. Although Shapiro is 19 years old in real-life (according to IMDb), she’ll apparently play Dorothy as an 11-year-old on Doom Patrol.
Dorothy made her comic book debut in Doom Patrol vol. 2 # 14 in 1998. She was born with a facial deformity that caused her to develop an ape-like appearance. Her adoptive parents refused to let her go to school out of fear that she would frighten the other children. With this, Dorothy made up imaginary friends to keep her company. However, she soon discovered that she had the power to bring these imaginary friends to life.

Dalton previously confirmed that Dorothy would show up on Doom Patrol shortly after the first episode premiered last year. Technically, she did make a brief appearance in the first season finale (as seen above), but viewers never saw her face. According to her official description, “Niles loves her very much and has gone through great sacrifice to protect her, and the world, from her special abilities. Now that she is no longer hidden, Niles will go to even greater lengths to protect her.”
Doom Patrol season 2 will be available to stream on both DC Universe and HBO Max later this year.
