Coronavirus Fears Shut Down Several TV and Film Productions

The novel coronavirus may officially be declared a national emergency later today. However, it’s already shutting down several television and movie projects in production. Via Variety, The Flash, Lucifer, Wheel of Time, Riverdale, and Carnival Row are among the affected shows.

Additionally, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier recently halted production only a few days into its Prague shoot. It’s unclear when the Disney+ original series will start filming again. Marvel’s Shang-Chi has also hit a coronavirus snag. Director Destin Daniel Cretton is “self-isolating” while awaiting the results of a coronavirus test.

According to Variety, Disney has also halted the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, as well as the Home Alone reboot, Peter Pan & Mary, The Last Duel, and Shrunk; the sequel to Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 7 is also on hold. Meanwhile, Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis bio-pic was derailed when Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, tested positive for coronavirus.

At the moment, there’s no way of knowing when the coronavirus pandemic will dissipate. Regardless, the affected shows and films may face additional delays.
