It looks like the COVID-19 outbreak has affected even that famous galaxy far, far away. Lucasfilm announced new dates for the Star Wars: The High Republic project in a recent statement. The upcoming stories featuring a group of Jedi knights right at the Order’s zenith in the Galactic Republic will arrive later than expected due to “general marketplace delays.”
The first books and comics in the High Republic project should have debuted in August 2020, starting with Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule. But it seems that will now be released on January 5, 2021. On the same date, fans will also get Justina Ireland’s middle-grade novel Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage. Claudia Gray’s young adult novel Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark will make its debut on February 2, 2021.

These upcoming Star Wars stories will cover events that happened 200 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The stories will feature brand new adventures and original characters. A group of Jedi heroes will have to keep the peace in the Star Wars universe from the forays of the Nihl, a sort of space Vikings. The new project in the Star Wars timeline will not overlap any filmed or planned Star Wars movies or series. However, there is at least one connection to a sequel trilogy character. The San Tekka clan, from which Max von Sydow’s Lor San Tekka descends, will feature prominently in this era.
The new release dates for Marvel’s Star Wars: The High Republic series and IDW Publishing’s Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures series are expected to be announced soon.
