Greg Berlanti Reveals Timeline of Batwoman Pilot

Batwoman Showrunner Shoots Down Rumor About Kate Kane’s Fate

Ruby Rose’s decision to leave Batwoman ahead of season 2 has led to some questions about the fate of her character, Kate Kane. Batwoman‘s producers have indicated that a new character will inherit the role, instead of recasting Kate. However, that led to rumors that Kate will be killed off in the upcoming season. That’s why Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries took to Twitter to shoot down

“As a lesbian who’s been working as a writer for the past fifteen years, I’m well aware of the ‘Bury Your Gays’ trope and I have no interest in participating in it,” wrote Dries. “My comments about recasting Batwoman have launched a storm of rumors and misinformation and I wanted to clarify something. Like you, I love Kate Kane – she’s the reason I wanted to do the show. We’ll never erase her.”

“In fact, her disappearance will be one of the mysteries of season two,” added Dries. “I don’t want to give away any of our surprises, but to all our devoted fans, please know that LGBTQ+ justice is at the very core of what Batwoman is and we have no intention of abandoning that.”

Kate Kane’s disappearance may echo Bruce Wayne’s unexplained absence, which is one of the reasons Kate became Batwoman. But it also leaves the door open for Kate to appear again. If Rose is unwilling or unable to reprise her role, perhaps Kate will eventually be recast.

Batwoman season 2 is expected to premiere in early 2021.
