Star Trek: Lower Decks Lands on CBS All Access in August

Ever since Star Trek: Lower Decks was first announced almost two years ago, fans have been looking forward to seeing what Rick and Morty’s Mike McMahan would bring to the Star Trek universe. Now, we finally know when the series will premiere its 10-episode first season on CBS All Access. Via /Film, Lower Decks will bring interstellar laughs starting on August 6.

Lower Decks centers on a ragtag band of support crew members serving on one of Starfleet’s least popular spacefaring vessels. CBS All Access shared the voice cast for the series and revealed an early look at character designs at San Diego Comic-Con last summer. The show features the voice talents of Tawny Newsome as Ensign Beckett Mariner; Jack Quaid as Ensign Brad Boimler; Noël Wells as Ensign Tendi; and Eugene Cordero as Ensign Rutherford. The support crew will also butt heads with their ship’s commanding officers, including Lieutenant Shaxs (Fred Tatasciore); Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis); Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O’Connell); and Doctor T’Ana (Gillian Vigman).

Although Lower Decks is expected to be a send-up of Star Trek lore, that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing familiar faces tagging along for the ride. McMahan recently teased that a few cast members from Star Trek: The Next Generation could make cameos on the series, since the show takes place during The Next Generation era.

Additionally, CBS All Access has debuted a new poster for the series that confirms the August premiere and includes a riff on the franchise’s infamous “boldly go where no man has gone before” tagline. Because the release date is fast approaching, the first trailer for the show can’t be far behind. You can check out the poster below.
