Westworld Creators Will Develop a Fallout Series For Amazon

Last year, Amazon Prime signed a development deal with Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Now, via GameRevolutionDeadline is reporting that Nolan and Joy will adapt the hit video game franchise, Fallout, as a new series for Amazon.

In 1997, the first Fallout video game introduced players to a post-apocalyptic world inspired by the 1940’s vision of the future. The games have also become widely known for their occasionally subversive and darkly comic moments. Amazon Studios confirmed the news with a post in the style of the games.

Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time,” said Nolan and Joy in a statement. “Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.”

Nolan and Joy’s Kilter Films will produce Fallout alongside Amazon Studios, Bethesda Game Studios, and Bethesda Softworks. Bethesda has previously made several attempts to adapt Fallout in Hollywood. But this appears to be the one most likely to actually happen.

“Over the last decade, we looked at many ways to bring Fallout to the screen,” said Bethesda’s Todd Howard. “But it was clear from the moment I first spoke with Jonah and Lisa a few years ago, that they and the team at Kilter were the ones to do it right. We’re enormous fans of their work and couldn’t be more excited to work with them and Amazon Studios.”

Additionally, Nolan and Joy are also producing an adaptation of William Gibson’s novel, The Peripheral, for Amazon. However, both Nolan and Joy will remain on Westworld for the duration of that series’ run on HBO.
