Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has come to an end after seven seasons on ABC. For a few years, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was able to use characters like Ghost Rider, Deathlok, and the Secret Warriors that weren’t being utilized in the MCU. However, the final season almost had the first ever live-action M.O.D.O.K. before Marvel changed course. Co-showrunner Jed Whedon revealed this tidbit during a new interview with AV Club.
“I’ll say this, I don’t care—we were given the green light originally to use certain characters from Marvel, and started to break story based on those characters—[Coughs.] MODOK—and then they retracted it,” said Whedon. “So there were a bunch of things that were going to get a little batshit crazy that were above our pay grade, in terms of the toys we were allowed to play with.”

The “Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing” was a creation of Advanced Idea Mechanics in Marvel’s comic book universe. While it’s unclear if there are any MCU plans for M.O.D.O.K., Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran Patton Oswalt is starring and producing an animated M.O.D.O.K. series.
