Earlier this month, HBO Max debuted its first original sci-fi offering with Raised by Wolves. Now, it looks like the conflict between androids and humans will last long enough to warrant another season. Via Deadline, HBO Max has announced that it has renewed the series for a second season.
Set in the 22nd century after a war between atheists and a religious group known as the Mithraic decimated the Earth, Raised by Wolves follows two androids as they attempt to restart human civilization on a new planet, Kepler-22b. Unfortunately, the arrival of new human refugees hinders their plans. Aaron Guzikowski created the series, which was executive produced by Ridley Scott, who also directed the first two episodes. The show has earned largely positive reviews since it premiered two weeks ago.
Sarah Aubrey, head of HBO Max, issued a statement about the renewal:
“When I think of Raised by Wolves, I think of artistry,” said Aubrey. “Artistry in crafting a compelling storyline, artistry in the out-of-this-world production design, special effects and cinematography, artistry in our actor’s portrayals of these memorable characters, and artistry attached to the legendary work of Ridley Scott, Aaron Guzikowski and our phenomenal crew. This chart-topping series beautifully weaves together Ridley’s hallmarks of sci-fi and horror while offering fans one of the most original storylines they’ve seen in some time. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for season two.”

Additionally, Scott issued a statement of his own, indicating that work on season 2 has already begun.
“Being a dyed-in-the-wool advertising man, I was knocked out by the extraordinary campaign done by HBO Max marketing, which conveyed the ambitious storyline in such a provocative and tactile manner, and deftly positioned our first season of Raised by Wolves as a ‘must watch’ show,” said Scott. “It must have been a notable challenge to selectively plumb the riches In Aaron’s storylines. We were even happier that audiences have responded so enthusiastically. We are already deep into the ‘layers’ of season 2, as Aaron has begun to shape what we think will be another brilliant season to inspire the imagination.”
Given the current state of the world, its unclear when Raised by Wolves season 2 will officially start production. However, the latest episode of the first season just dropped today. The current season will wrap up on October 1.
