Amazon’s The Boys is Getting a New Spinoff Series

The Boys season 2 has earned solid reviews ever since it premiered on Amazon Prime earlier this month. Now, the streaming service is taking the first step toward world building. Variety brings word that a spinoff series is currently in development.

Amazon hasn’t shared a title for the new show. However, it will take place at a college for up-and-coming superheroes bankrolled by Vought International. Viewers can expect to see “hormonal, competitive supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities” around the country. The series is also described as “part college show, part Hunger Games” and, of course, it will retain the flagship series’ boundary-pushing violence and humor.

Craig Rosenberg, a writer and executive producer on The Boys, is showrunning the spinoff. The flagship series’ creator, Eric Kripke, will executive produce alongside Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver. Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty are also onboard as executive producers. Variety notes that Amazon is “fast-tracking” the spinoff’s development, meaning it could arrive sooner rather than later.

The Boys became one of Amazon’s highest-rated original programs last year after it debuted its eight-episode first season. This year, the streaming service experimented with a new release model by releasing the first three episodes of season 2 all at once, followed by the remaining episodes on a weekly basis. Fortunately, the show’s fanbase seems to be as enthusiastic as ever, resulting in a season 3 renewal.

The next episode of Amazon’s The Boys will premiere tomorrow.
