Well, it seems that the American adaptation of Utopia didn’t last long at Amazon. According to Deadline, the streaming service has canceled the series after just one season. The eight-episode show by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) debuted back on Sept. 25, but it didn’t manage to appeal much to either critics or viewers. The series had a quiet run even after its debut, and this might be the reason behind its cancellation, following a long and troubled history. Flynn started working on adapting the 2013-14 eponymous British series back in 2014 together with Gone Girl director David Fincher. The show should have aired at first on HBO, but they didn’t reach a deal with the television network on the project’s budget. Amazon picked up the series after HBO backed down.
