Warning: There are spoilers ahead for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 1!
It’s time to kick Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 into a new gear. Disney+ has premiered the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and we want to know what the Superhero Hype community thinks about it!
Six months after Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson still has Captain America’s shield…but apparently he has no desire to take up the mantle. Sam is also working with the Air Force to take on a terrorist group called LAF. As the Falcon, Sam encounters Georges Batroc and LAF as they attempt to kidnap a hostage off of a hijacked plane. Sam outmaneuvers his enemies and he narrowly manages to save the hostage. However, Batroc gets away.
Shortly thereafter, Sam learns about the Flag Smashers from his new colleague, Joaquin Torres. The Flag Smashers want to eliminate all borders and believe that Earth was better off during the Blip. While Joaquin remains in the field to investigate the Flag Smashers, Sam returns to Washington D.C. to surrender Cap’s shield to the Smithsonian. He also reunites with James Rhodes/War Machine, and explains why he didn’t want to become the next Cap.

Elsewhere, Bucky Barnes is in therapy to deal with his time as the Winter Soldier. To make amends for his sins, Bucky helps the government catch former Hydra assets. He also befriends Yori, an older man who is haunted by the unexplained death of his son. During lunch, Yori encourages Bucky to go on a date with a waitress named Leah. But while spending time with Leah, Bucky feels guilty when she brings Yori’s son because he was responsible for his death. Bucky just can’t bring himself to admit this truth to Yori and ask for forgiveness.
In Switzerland, Joaquin goes undercover during a Flag Smasher flash mob. Unfortunately, this event was just a ruse for a superhuman Flag Smasher to rob a bank. When Joaquin confronts the Flag Smasher, he is badly beaten with ease. Back on the home front, Sam reunites with his sister, Sarah, and tries to save the family business. However, the bank refuses to give the Wilson family a loan because Sam has no work history for the previous five years. Joaquin survives the attack, and sends footage of the Flag Smashers to Sam. But just as Sam goes over the video, Sarah alerts him to the live announcement of John Walker as the new Captain America.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s first episode is on Disney+. The second episode will debut on Friday, March 26.
