After an extended production delay, Star Trek: Picard season 2 is finally filming. Additionally, the Star Trek: The Next Generation follow up series is bringing back yet another familiar face. John de Lancie’s all-powerful Q will once again reunite with Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard.
Paramount+ made the announcement in a Star Trek: Picard season 2 teaser, which features Picard speaking about “what could have been.” The closing moments confirm Q’s return for the first time since Star Trek: Voyager.

Via Collider, De Lancie spoke about reprising his role after so many decades away.
“It’s not that difficult — he is deliciously naughty, marvelously annoying, and terribly self-involved — so as my wife says, it’s not much of a stretch.”
Picard and Q’s last on-screen meeting came in the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. In that episode, Q showed Picard glimpses of the past, present, and future united by a common threat. However, almost none of that future actually came to pass in the Picard series.
Star Trek: Picard season 2 will premiere on Paramount+ in 2022.
