The Latest Wheel of Time Preview Reveals al’Lan Mandragoran

Slowly but surely, Amazon continues to release new footage from the upcoming Wheel of Time adaptation, which means fans are getting their first looks at their favorite characters from Robert Jordan’s fantasy novels in glorious, VFX-enhanced live-action. Last month, Amazon Prime shared an early glimpse at Rosamund Pike’s Moiraine Damodred using the One Power. Now, the producers have revealed another pivotal character from the upcoming TV series: al’Lan Mandragoran, as played by Daniel Henney.

Just like Pike’s character’s introduction, the new clip is short, clocking in at only six seconds. Regardless, it teases the role that Henney will play throughout the show’s first season. Although most of the clip shows him staring intently into the distance, there’s a brief flash of his character in the midst of a swordfight, complete with some ominous narration to underscore his stoic personality.

In the books, Mandragoran (usually referred to as “Lan”) is Moriaine’s Warder, and sworn to protect her during her travels. He also happens to be all that remains of the royal line of Malkier, a kingdom that fell victim to the corrosive plague known as the Great Blight. Before its demise, Lan was meant to be Malkier’s king.

Rafe Judkins is heading up The Wheel of Time as showrunner and executive producer. In addition to Pike and Henney, the series also stars the likes of Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Madeleine Madden, Barney Harris, and Michael McElhatton. Amazon still hasn’t announced a premiere date for the series.
