Happy Gilmore’s nemesis has joined the cast of Marvel’s Secret Invasion series on Disney+. According to Deadline, Christopher McDonald has booked a mystery role on the show.
McDonald will star alongside other Marvel newcomers like Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Killian Scott. Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn will also return to play Nick Fury and Talos, respectively. Marvel isn’t sharing too many details about the nature of McDonald’s role. Regardless, Deadline’s sources claim that he’s playing a “newly created character” who could also show up in other Marvel movies and TV series.
Based on Brian Michael Bendis and Lenil Frances Yu’s 2008 limited series, Secret Invasion traces the fallout of a large-scale Skrull infiltration of Earth, where the shape-shifting aliens have assumed the identity of people in all walks of life. Earlier this month, Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim signed on to direct the show.

Aside from his fan-favorite role as Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore, McDonald is also remembered for his performances in Thelma & Louise, Quiz Show, and Requiem for a Dream. He recently appeared in Netflix’s We Can Be Heroes and currently has a role on HBO Max’s Hacks.
McDonald’s isn’t actually new to the superhero genre. Back in the ‘90s, he provided the voice of Jor-El on Superman: The Animated Series. He later played an older Man of Steel in two episodes of Batman Beyond and also voiced Harvey Dent in several episodes of Beware the Batman in 2014.
Disney+ still hasn’t announced a premiere date for Secret Invasion.
