REPORT: Marvel Studios is Developing a Halloween Special For Disney+

The Guardians of the Galaxy may not be the only ones celebrating a major holiday on Disney+ next year. A new report from The Wrap claims that Marvel is developing a Halloween special for the streaming service, with an eye to start production in early 2022.

The studio is apparently looking to cast a Latino actor in his 30s to headline the special. According to sources, the lead character is none other than Werewolf by Night, who first appeared in the pages of Marvel Spotlight in 1972.

There have actually been two different characters under the Werewolf by Night banner. Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog created the original werewolf, Jack Russell, based on an idea by Roy Thomas.  Jack’s family had a history of Lycanthropy, and he inherited the wolf’s curse. Although Jack transformed during every full moon, he normally didn’t kill other humans. In 2020, Marvel introduced a new Werewolf by Night, Jake Gomez, a Native American whose family also struggles with a similar curse.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is primed to be the studio’s first horror movie when it hits theaters next March. Marvel is also planning to reboot Blade, which will bring vampires into the MCU sometime during Phase Five or later.
