The end of civilization as we know it draws near, and only those in power have the means to stop it. No, this is not a reflection on real-life current events–it’s the premise for Apple TV+’s Foundation, based on Isaac Asimov’s acclaimed sci-fi novels. Ahead of tomorrow’s series premiere, PlayStation has debuted a new clip that sets up the conflict between the futuristic Galactic Empire and the group of exiles who seek to prevent its destruction.
Chernobyl star Jared Harris stars as Dr. Hari Seldon, a mathematician who uses an equation to predict the Empire’s fall. In the clip, Seldon and Lou Llobell’s Gaal Dornick are brought before Lee Pace’s emperor, who remains skeptical of Seldon’s findings. It isn’t until Gaal speaks up in more foreboding terms that we learn the precise nature of the looming threat. But even then, her warning seems to be falling on deaf ears.

Additionally, the clip reveals an extra bonus for PlayStation 5 owners. They can now unlock six months of Apple TV+ for free, meaning they can stream Foundation along with other shows like Ted Lasso and next month’s Invasion.
David S. Goyer developed Foundation with Josh Friedman and now serves as the series’ showrunner. The cast also includes the likes of Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann, and Alfred Enoch.
Foundation premieres on Apple TV+ tomorrow, September 24.
