While the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy gave gamers a more relatable Lara Croft, it’s difficult to reconcile that character with the heroine as she was originally conceived in the ’90s. Regardless, the upcoming Tomb Raider anime series will attempt to unify Lara Croft’s timelines.
“The team at Crystal Dynamics is hard at work unifying the timelines of Tomb Raider,” said Tasha Huo, the writer and executive producer of the anime series. “The Tomb Raider anime series from Legendary Television and Netflix will provide fans like you and me around the world with some of the first steps towards unifying the Tomb Raider timelines as we transition beyond the Survivor Trilogy and start to follow Lara’s journey leading up to the first steps of that first Tomb Raider game.
She also added that “part of that awesome task is about bringing together pieces from the different Tomb Raider eras, including some of Lara’s friends and allies.”

Additionally, Huo announced two new cast members for the series. Earl Baylon will reprise his role as Jonah Maiava from the Survivor Trilogy. Allen Maldonado is also joining the cast as Zip. His character previously appeared in Tomb Raider: Chronicles, Tomb Raider: Legends, and Tomb Raider: Underworld.
Hayley Atwell will headline the series as Lara Croft. She previously portrayed Agent Peggy Carter in the MCU films. Atwell also continues to voice Captain Carter in the What If…? animated series.
Netflix hasn’t set a date for the Tomb Raider anime series. But a 2022 or a 2023 premiere seem likely.
