Rick Cosnett Will Return For Several Episodes of The Flash Season 8

Last fall, Rick Cosnett announced on Instagram that he would be returning to The Flash at some point during the show’s eighth season. But now, Deadline brings word that Cosnett will appear in a multi-episode arc of The Flash season 8.

Cosnett was a series regular during The Flash’s first season on The CW starting in 2014. He played Eddie Thawne, a CCPD detective who was introduced as Joe West’s partner and Iris West’s boyfriend. He later became an informal member of Team Flash once he learned Barry Allen’s secret identity. But after discovering he was an ancestor of Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash, Eddie sacrificed himself in the show’s first season finale in order to stop his descendant from ever existing. Despite this, Cosnett eventually guest-starred in episodes of season 2 and 3.

Viewers can expect to see Cosnett in at least three episodes of The Flash this season. However, he might not be playing the same Eddie that they remember. Cosnett will apparently make his return to the series in an “unconventional” way, with Deadline’s sources hinting that will embody multiple different characters throughout his upcoming stint on the show. And if the series gets picked up for season 9, he could potentially show up there as well.

“Rick’s been such a fantastic part of our Flash family since S1,” said showrunner Eric Wallace in a new statement. “And we have been looking for ways to bring him back to the show ever since. Fortunately, we’ve been able to do so now in Season 8. And Rick has been fantastic in bringing an exciting new side to his portrayal of Eddie Thawne that both honors the character’s past, but also takes it somewhere unexpected.”

Cosnett will appear in the next episode of The Flash on Wednesday, March 9 at 8pm on The CW.
