Netflix Resident Evil Series Gets Release Date, Teaser Art

The movie Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City didn’t perform well enough to justify a new cinematic franchise. However, all eyes now turn to Netflix for the property’s live-action future. Starting July 14, the Netflix Resident Evil series will continue the saga, in a story set in the year 2036. Eight one-hour episodes tell a tale that takes place 14 years after the release of a deadly virus that created zombies and monsters.

Lance Reddick stars as longtime franchise villain Albert Wesker. Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery costar in unspecified roles.

Per Netflix, here’s the official synopsis: “Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”

To get things started, the streamer released three teaser posters, which hint at Umbrella’s original intentions, possibly surrounding radical new antidepressants. Maybe they were on to something. In the midst of fighting zombies, there’s very little time to think about being depressed. Take a look at the teasers in the gallery below.
