First Images From Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots Volume 3

Considering it’s a show about robots from Tim Miller and David Fincher, the directors of Deadpool and Fight Club, Love, Death + Robots doesn’t seem to get as much attention as it deserves. Perhaps it’s the usual stigma against animation for adults that isn’t (always) comedy or anime. Or maybe it’s the uphill battle any anthology show faces. Regardless, Love, Death + Robots Volume 3 now has an official release date, and Netflix just revealed six new stills to showcase the diverse range of animation on display. The shorts once again run the gamut from conventionally animated action to hyper-realism, and sometimes disarming goofiness.

The official description of the series says “Terror, imagination and beauty combine in new episodes which stretch from uncovering an ancient evil to a comedic apocalypse, telling startling short stories of fantasy, horror and science-fiction with trademark wit and visual invention.”

For TV fans with long memories, perhaps a more accurate description is a mash-up of The Twilight Zone and MTV’s Liquid Television, the animated short show that birthed Aeon Flux in the ’90s. Stories vary from tales of cats ruling the world to robotic hitmen in class-stratified future societies. And there are always robots.

Netflis also unleashed an amusing highlight reel of the previous two seasons. It pokes fun at some of the classier, more acclaimed dramas on the streamer, and contrasts some of Love, Death + Robots‘ lowbrow humor with its dazzling animation art. Warning: NSFW language below.

Love, Death + Robots Volume 3 drops on Netflix May 20. Will you watch it? Let us know in comment section!
