Ten years after Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan is in exile on Tatooine, working a dead end job and occasionally checking in on Luke Skywalker. Elsewhere on the planet, the Inquisitors locate another Jedi named Nari. Thanks to the reckless actions of the Third Sister/Reva, Nari makes his escape. When Obi-Wan leaves a toy ship for Luke, Owen Lars confronts the former Jedi and warns him to stay away. Minutes later, Obi-Wan hides while Owen is caught in a crowd as Reva demands info about Nari. Owen doesn’t give up Obi-Wan despite Reva’s threat against him and his family. Regardless, Owen rebuffs Obi-Wan’s attempt to thank him.
Meanwhile on Alderaan, ten-year-old Leia Organa is a bit of an outcast in the Organa family. She does have a good rapport with her adoptive father, Bail Organa. However, Leia’s cousin seems to know that she “isn’t a real Organa.” After verbally tearing her cousin down, Leia refuses to apologize and she runs outside where she is kidnapped by mercenaries. In desperation, Bail and his wife send Obi-Wan a message, but he refuses to help. Obi-Wan also ignores Nari’s pleas before catching sight of his dead body after the Inquisitors catch up with him. Bail comes directly to Obi-Wan’s cave and personally appeals to his friend for Leia’s sake. Obi-Wan relents and retrieves his hidden lightsaber before leaving Tatooine on a transport.

At the same time, Reva is revealed to be behind the plot to kidnap Leia in order to lure Obi-Wan out of hiding. Obi-Wan arrives on Daiyu and meets a con man named Haja Estree who pretends to be a Jedi. Obi-Wan “convinces” Haja to help him find Leia, but he briefly falls into the trap left by the mercenaries. Regardless, Obi-Wan gets free and finally meets Leia when she tries her own escape attempt.
Leia is initially wary about Obi-Wan, especially when she realizes that he is the real target. When the Grand Inquisitor and the other Inquisitors tell Reva to stand down, she defies them by placing a massive bounty on Obi-Wan. In the chaos that follows, Leia almost falls to her death before Obi-Wan uses the Force to save her. Now convinced of his sincerity, Leia stays with Obi-Wan. Additionally, Haja catches up with them and offers Obi-Wan and Leia a way to escape.
Haja even tries to slow down Reva, but she sees through his deception and pulls the info about Obi-Wan from his mind. The Grand Inquisitor finds Reva before she can attack Obi-Wan. In response, she stabs him with her lightsaber. Reva also taunts Obi-Wan with the knowledge that Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader is still alive. Obi-Wan and Leia make their escape, but Kenobi is shaken by that revelation. Somewhere else, Vader awakens in a bacta tank.
