Move over, Daenerys—because it looks like there’s a new dragonrider coming to Westeros. HBO’s long-awaited Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, will finally give viewers the Targaryen family history lesson they’ve been waiting for. And with only two months left until the series premiere, the network has just released some new key art featuring Emma D’Arcy’s Princess Rhaenyra. You can check it out for yourself below.
Set 200 years before its parent series, the new show depicts the reign of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine), a seemingly benevolent ruler who only wants to live up to his grandfather’s legacy. But since this is a Game of Thrones story, political intrigue is inevitable, as is the eventual Targaryen family civil war. Joining the fray is Viserys’ younger brother, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), a fierce warrior and the next in line to sit on the Iron Throne. However, early marketing for the series has pegged Rhaenyra as the character to watch out for. Although being a woman seemingly precludes her from attaining any power, Rhaenyra isn’t going to let anything distract her from fulfilling her ambitions.
Fire will reign.

True to its name, the upcoming series will also introduce a new family of literal dragons in addition to metaphorical ones. And one such beast looms behind D’Arcy’s character in the show’s latest poster. This is most likely Syrax, the dragon that Rhaenyra has been riding since she was seven years old.
House of the Dragon will premiere on Sunday, August 21 on HBO.
