Solo Star Alden Ehrenreich Joins the Cast of Marvel’s Ironheart Series

Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story wasn’t exactly the big success that everyone hoped for when it premiered in 2018. But even the naysayers can agree that Alden Ehrenreich gave an immaculate performance as a young Han Solo, and soon, he’ll be trying his luck in another Disney-backed cinematic universe. Deadline brings word that Ehrenreich has booked the latest mystery role in Marvel’s upcoming Ironheart series on Disney+.

Ironheart will star Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, who will make her MCU debut when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives this fall. In the comics, Riri was a teenage science prodigy who idolized Tony Stark and, as a demonstration of her own MIT-worthy intellect, reverse-engineered a flying suit of armor based on Stark’s Iron Man designs. Marvel announced the series during Disney’s Investor Day presentation in 2020, with Chinaka Hodge later coming aboard as its head writer.

After Solo hit theaters, Ehrenreich headlined Peacock’s TV adaptation of Brave New World in 2020. He also recently finished shooting Christopher Nolan’s star-studded Oppenheimer biopic. Next up, he will appear in Elizabeth Banks’ Cocaine Bear, which is scheduled for release in 2023. Fun fact: this actually isn’t Ehrenreich’s first brush with the Marvel Universe. In 2010, he was reportedly on the shortlist to play Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man before the part went to Andrew Garfield.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is also working on Ironheart as an executive producer. The directorial team consists of Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes, who will each helm three episodes. So far, the supporting cast includes Anthony Ramos, Lyric Ross, Harper Anthony, and Manny Montana. All of their characters remain shrouded in secrecy for now. But perhaps more details will be shared during Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 23.

Marvel still hasn’t announced a release date for Ironheart.
