Actor Barry Sloane has reportedly been cast in The Sandman Season 2 as the middle sibling of the Endless, Destruction.
According to Redanian Intelligence, Sloane is taking on the role of Destruction in Netflix‘s adaptation of DC‘s iconic dark fantasy comic series by Neil Gaiman. Sloane has has a number of film and television credits under his belt, though is perhaps best known as Captain John Price in the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its sequel.
Another sibling in the Endless family
The mythology of The Sandman involves seven immortal beings known as the Endless, each one of whom personifies a different aspect of life. The series centers on Dream, portrayed by Tom Sturridge. Season 1 also introduced his older sister Death (Kirby Baptiste), younger sister Despair (Donna Preston), and non-binary sibling Desire (Mason Alexander Park). Gaiman has confirmed that the youngest of the Endless, Delirium, will appear in Season 2, although her actor has not yet been announced. Destiny, the oldest, is also expected to show up.
Destruction has been referred to as “the prodigal,” as he abandoned his post long ago and dropped all contact with his siblings. However, his presence in Season 2 would not necessarily indicate anything about the order of the narrative, as he may be in flashbacks only. In the comics, he is portrayed as a very tall and muscular man with a friendly personality.
The Sandman Season 1 came to Netflix in 2021. Dream, also called Morpheus or simply the Sandman, is held captive for decades by humans who were attempting to control his sister Death. After his escape, Dream begins to rebuild his kingdom and confront his long past, approaching his duties with a somewhat changed perspective.
A release window for The Sandman Season 2 has not yet been announced.
