A new cast member has reportedly been revealed for the third season of Prime Video‘s fantasy series The Wheel of Time. Olivia Williams, star of The Nevers and Dollhouse, is said to be playing Queen Morgase of Andor.
According to unofficial news site WoT Series, Williams has been cast as “The Queen” and was spotted on the set used for Caemlyn, the capital of the fictional nation of Andor. This makes it probable that her role is Morgase Trakand, the ruling monarch of Andor and mother of Ceara Coveney’s character, Elayne.
Williams is known for her roles in movies including The Sixth Sense, 2003’s Peter Pan, and the upcoming Dune: Prophecy. She had a starring role across the two seasons of the sci-fi drama Dollhouse, and played Lavinia Bidlow in every episode of HBO’s The Nevers. Most recently, she played Camilla Parker Bowles in Netflix’s The Crown. In the third X-Men film, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, Williams had an uncredited role as Dr. Moira MacTaggart.
Morgase Trakand, the Queen of Andor
In The Wheel of Time book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, Andor is a powerful nation ruled by a matriarchal monarchy. Although the TV series has not yet featured any scenes in Andor, the Daughter-Heir, Elayne, was introduced as a major character in Season 2. Queen Morgase is bound to have a dramatic arc of her own in addition to being an important figure in her daughter’s life and in the fantasy world’s background politics.
The Wheel of Time is set in a world where certain women, including Elayne, have access to powerful magic and can join the feared and respected order of Aes Sedai. However, men with the same ability are doomed to mentally snap and endanger everyone around them, even Josha Stradowski’s Rand al’Thor, who has been revealed as the destined savior known as the Dragon Reborn.
The Wheel of Time Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on Prime Video. A release window for Season 3 has not yet been announced.
