The Boys EP Thinks Gen V Should Be Wary of Getting Into The Seven

For many characters in The Boys spin-off Gen V, the dream is to get selected for the world’s premier superhero team, The Seven. The potential realization of that goal, however, will come with its own complications.

In response to a question submitted to TVLine, Gen V producer Michele Fazekas addressed the ending of Season 1, in which it was hinted that a Godolkin University student would be invited to join The Seven. “That will always be the carrot,” said Fazekas. “It’s like, this is a thing that you want, but the carrot is interesting because the carrot’s starting to get rotten, and I think our people are starting to figure that out — which is not to say that they’re not going to take it anyway. Because if you limit their choices enough, it starts looking pretty good.”

Fazekas continued, “But I don’t know … that’s another thing where you want to be very, very mindful of when you pull that card.”

What’s going on in The Boys universe?

The Boys, based on a series of comics of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, premiered on Prime Video in 2019. The show imagines a world in which superheroes are real, but paid and promoted by a megacorporation, Vought International, which engineered the drug that imparts powers. As a result, “supes” are viewed as celebrities and concerned only with their image, and many of them have become selfish, spoiled public idols.

The first live-action spin-off, Gen V, adds a twist to this scenario by focusing on young supes who are attending Vought’s Godolkin University, already immersed in the corporation’s propaganda as they prepare for lives under the spotlight. This week, another spin-off was announced, tentatively titled The Boys: Mexico.

Season 1 of Gen V and the first three seasons of The Boys are now streaming on Prime Video. The Boys Season 4 will premiere in 2024; a release window for Gen V Season 2 has not yet been announced.
