Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio says Daredevil: Born Again will likely be part of the Marvel Spotlight banner.
Speaking on the BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, D’Onofrio was asked if the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series would be part of Marvel Studios’ new Spotlight banner.
“For sure,” D’Onofrio answered.
He continued, “That’s my opinion, I imagine it would be. Nobody has said, ‘Hey, did you know this? This is happening’ — nobody said that. But it is of the same tone and feel [as Echo]. The attention that the big bosses are giving to it is extraordinary and Charlie [Cox] and I are just amazed at how much they care about this series. I can’t imagine it being treated any less.”
What is the Marvel Spotlight banner?
Announced in November 2023, the Marvel Spotlight banner is a new sub-category of more “grounded” stories within the MCU. Echo, which releases in January 2024 (and also stars D’Onofrio as Kingpin), will be the first MCU title to debut with the Marvel Spotlight banner, while the upcoming Wonder Man series will follow suit.
“Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity,” Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming for Marvel Studios, previously said per Marvel.com. “Just like comics fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.”
Along with D’Onofrio, Echo stars Alaqua Cox, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Greene, Cody Lightning, Charlie Cox, Devery Jacobs, and Zahn McClarnon. All five episodes of the MCU miniseries hit Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024.
Daredevil: Born Again, meanwhile, does not yet have an official release date from Marvel.
