Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers have promised the fifth and final season of the popular sci-fi horror series will be the biggest one yet.
“This season — it’s like season one on steroids,” Matt Duffer said in an interview with The Guardian. “It’s the biggest it’s ever been in terms of scale, but it has been really fun, because everyone’s back together in Hawkins: the boys and Eleven interacting more in line with how it was in season one. And, yes, there may be spin-offs, but the story of Eleven and Dustin and Lucas and Hopper, their stories are done here. That’s it…”
Season 4 of Stranger Things ended dramatically, with spores from the Upside Down emerging in Hawkins following an earthquake that rips the town apart. Additionally, the season finally saw Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) have an epic showdown with Upside Down inhabitant Vecna. With the threat still looming by the end of the season, Eleven and the gang come back together for what will be their last stand come Season 5.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow
While The Duffer Brothers could not elaborate on specific spin-off plans for Stranger Things, the brothers teased the upcoming stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow as an opportunity for fans to discover the early events that occurred in Hawkins in 1959. Additionally, the stage play, set to premiere at London’s West End sometime in 2024, will dive into the backstories of popular characters including Sheriff Jim Hopper, Joyce Byers, Bob Newby, and Henry Creel.
“We are beyond excited about Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement. “Collaborating with the brilliant Stephen Daldry has been nothing short of inspiring, and Kate Trefry has written a play that is at turns surprising, scary, and heartfelt. You will meet endearing new characters, as well as very familiar ones, on a journey into the past that sets the groundwork for the future of Stranger Things. We’re dying to tell you more about the story but won’t – it’s more fun to discover it for yourself. Can’t wait to see you nerds in London!”
The first four seasons of Stranger Things are available to stream on Netflix.
