Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio recently opened up about his role in Echo, as well as what’s in store for his character beyond the forthcoming Marvel Studios miniseries.
Speaking with Screen Rant, D’Onofrio discussed Kingpin’s Marvel Cinematic Universe return in Echo. He also touched on how the series will explore the father-daughter relationship between his character and Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez/Echo.
“I think that he goes through a lot trying to get her back no matter what she’s done to get away from him,” said D’Onofrio, alluding to the events of the 2021 Disney+ series Hawkeye. “And I think that it ends up to be a kind of very father-daughter trepidatious period for them, to say the least. And it gets very intense. It gets emotionally violent and physically violent.”
Does Kingpin have a future in the MCU?
Echo will reveal that Kingpin’s reign of power goes beyond New York. While D’Onofrio was hesitant to spill too much, he confirmed that Echo, as well as future MCU series, will continue to pull back the curtain on how powerful Wilson Fisk/Kingpin is. “Yeah, I mean, it’s something that we’re going to continue to deal with when it comes to Wilson Fisk in every way. Not just Echo, but in every way,” he said.
So far in the MCU, Kingpin has crossed paths with Daredevil, The Punisher, Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, and Echo. When asked if there were any other heroes that he’d like to see Kingpin go toe-to-toe with, D’Onofrio remarked, “All of them.”
However, at this time, D’Onofrio is only confirmed to appear in one future MCU project: the upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, opposite Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Production on Born Again is currently halted as the series undergoes a massive creative overhaul that will reportedly bring it more in line with the tone of the Netflix series.
Echo releases in its entirety on January 9, 2024, on Hulu and Disney+.
