James Gunn says the second season of Peacemaker is over halfway written.
On Threads, Gunn was asked how far along Peacemaker Season 2 is into preproduction at this point in time. Gunn responded, “Over halfway written.”
Gunn confirmed in October 2023 that he had begun writing Peacemaker Season 2. He’s also currently preparing for Superman: Legacy’s production, which begins filming in March 2024 before it releases in United States theaters on July 11, 2025.
What do we know about Peacemaker Season 2?
Peacemaker premiered on Max (formerly known as HBO Max) in January 2022 as a follow-up to 2021’s The Suicide Squad, which was directed by Gunn. The series finished its first season in February 2022, at which point it was renewed for a second season.
“Peacemaker explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad—a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it,” the synopsis reads.
After Gunn and Peter Safran were hired as co-CEOs and co-chairmen of DC Studios in October 2022, Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker would still return for a second season despite the fact that the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was being replaced with a brand-new DCU.
Gunn later clarified that no DCEU properties released prior to the upcoming animated Creature Commandos series, which debuts in 2024, are considered “canon” to the DCU; however, there are elements and characters the DCU will continue to use from the DCEU, such as Cena’s Christopher Smith/Peacemaker character, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle.
Peacemaker Season 1 is currently streaming on Max. The second season of Peacemaker Season 2 does not yet have a release date but is expected to arrive after Superman: Legacy.
