DC Studios boss James Gunn recently shared some retro fan art depicting Creature Commandos star Anya Chalotra as a comic-accurate Circe.
Artist Davi Alves modeled the amazing Circe fan art after an old DC comic book cover. After Gunn shared the image on his Instagram Story, it was reshared across the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
This isn’t the first time that Alves’ work has been promoted by Gunn. The artist’s retro comic book covers of the cast of Superman: Legacy, specifically Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, were shared by Gunn back in October 2023, also on his Instagram Story.
Gunn recently confirmed Chalotra’s casting as Circe in Creature Commandos on Threads. The DC head also stated that the series “featured other cool characters . . . played by other cool actors” who haven’t been announced yet.
Who else stars in Creature Commandos?
The voice cast for Creature Commandos also includes Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot and Weasel, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
Creature Commandos will be the first official entry in Gunn’s forthcoming DC Universe, which serves as a soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe. The animated series is based on the comic book team of the same name created by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick that debuted in 1980’s Weird War Tales #93. While the original team’s missions took place during World War II, the DCU version will be set in the present day.
Creature Commandos is expected to premiere on Max in late 2024 as part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods & Monsters.
