Dave Filoni has given an update about the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie and a potential fourth season of Disney+’s The Mandalorian.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the 512st Saturn Awards, via the @Mando3Updates, Filoni addressed whether or not Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu movie means there won’t be a fourth season of the Disney+ Star Wars series.
“There’s so much spinning in the galaxy right now,” Filoni answered. “You know me better than to commit to any one thing. No mind trick works on me. I’m excited about what we’re doing right now. I think it’s going to be great, obviously, with Jon at the helm. It’s going to be fantastic. He’s so well-studied in Star Wars, so he’s got a great shorthand and I love collaborating with him. Just excited to share the future of what we’re doing.”
What do we know about The Mandalorian & Grogu?
In January 2024, Lucasfilm announced that The Mandalorian & Grogu, a new Star Wars movie directed by Favreau, will be going into production later this year. Favreau is also producing the movie alongside Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau previously said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Kennedy added, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”
The Mandalorian, meanwhile, premiered on Disney+ in 2019. Starring Pedro Pascal and Katee Sackhoff, the series has so far run for three seasons. A fourth season was reportedly in development when The Mandalorian & Grogu was revealed to be in the works; however, it’s not immediately clear if Lucasfilm plans to continue the series following the film announcement.
The first three seasons of The Mandalorian are currently streaming on Disney+. A release date for The Mandalorian & Grogu has not yet been set.
