Daybreak Games has found great success with its library of free-to-play online games. Among them is DC Universe Online, a game that’s brought in millions of players since its launch in 2011. So far, it’s made its way to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. But now it’s about to arrive on another thriving platform – the Nintendo Switch.
Via CBR, DC Universe Online will come to Nintendo’s platform this summer. Daybreak Games also released an official trailer, which you can see below. It gives potential players a glimpse of the immersive world that awaits them, both on the road and at home.
Bringing the game to the Switch proved to be a challenge for the team, according to creative director SJ Mueller. “A hand-held device, a fully built world…even I had my doubts,” stated Mueller. But she has faith that the system is a perfect fit for DC Universe Online.
“Bringing the game to the Switch was something that’s very close to my heart,” explained Mueller. “Nintendo was the first console I really connected with; and yet, I associated the brand with first party or platform games. But when the Switch came out, it blew my mind and highlighted the possibilities that were there.”

Mueller also noted how community could make a difference when it comes to shifting to a new platform.
“Listening to the community about how to improve the experience – as both a fan and a creative director – has been invaluable,” continued Mueller. “You have to listen to (the players) to know if you’re hitting the mark, if you’re achieving what you set out to do. I feel like that has made us even better at making content, making an experience where you’re not battling the UI, but fighting villains alongside Superman! I think that was a huge difference in our original launch versus our launch now.”
“It’s very important to me that all of our communities stay the same and up to speed,” added executive producer Leah Bowers. “I didn’t want the Switch to be in a book all to itself; I wanted the other communities to benefit from the improvements that we were making and vice versa.”
The game should include all of its expansions, including the massive Aquaman DLC that arrived late last year.

There’s no word yet if the game will require a Nintendo Switch Online connection to play. Fortnite, another popular free-to-play title, doesn’t currently require said membership. We’ve reached out to Daybreak for more information, and we’ll update the story if they respond.
