Marvel’s Avengers received a great deal of attention at Gamescom. Square Enix recently released over 18 minutes of gameplay from the upcoming game. Now, new details indicate that Square Enix will support the title with an extended DLC plan after its release next year.
Via IGN, Square Enix indicated that Marvel’s Avengers would continue to expand for “years to come.” The publisher is working very closely with Marvel to make sure its tone is true to the comics. However, it also has some creative leeway so that it can “expand the universe and build upon its rich history.”
Square Enix is currently focusing on War Zone Missions. These are playable both alone and in multiplayer, with up to four people online. A variety of these will be available at launch, but the publisher aims to add more following the game’s release, at no additional charge.
It will also add “story beats” as part of the game’s downloadable content, to “further the narrative for certain characters.” However, IGN didn’t clarify if this meant for heroes already included in the game, or new heroes that would be thrown into the mix, such as Hawkeye or Ant-Man.

One other item that the game will introduce is cosmetics. These will span across “Marvel’s vast 80-year history,” and can be unlocked over the course of the game. They have no effect on how a character plays. However, they may be fun collectibles, which fans can also buy through optional microtransactions. Both “original pieces and fan favorites” will be available, although the exact details aren’t available just yet.
Marvel’s Avengers will arrive on May 15, 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, and PC.
