Hellboy Web of Wyrd Debuts Action-Packed Launch Trailer

Hellboy Web of Wyrd, a new roguelite brawler, dropped an action-packed launch trailer to celebrate its recent release.

The Hellboy trailer sees the titular half-demon facing down an assortment of beasts on different levels of the Wyrd. Announced at The Game Awards 2022, Hellboy Web of Wyrd comes from developer Upstream Arcade and publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment. It’s based on the comics by Mike Mignola from Dark Horse Comics. Upstream worked with Mignola on the game, with the creator helping write the story and developing its key art.

A synopsis for the game reads: “Hellboy Web of Wyrd places players in the shoes of Big Red himself (voiced by Lance Reddick) as he is sent across the strange realm of the Wyrd. When an agent of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.) goes missing investigating the Butterfly House and psychic spikes are discovered across the globe, the world’s foremost cambion hunter of the supernatural — Hellboy — is called in.”

The roguelite brawler sees players step into Hellboy’s shows, traversing the Wyrd while battling in melee and ranged styles. Similar to other games of the genre, Hellboy uses new weapons and godforms as he delves deeper into the Wyrd. The game also teases an ancient evil located somewhere deep within the world.

Hellboy Web of Wyrd Reviews

Michael Leri at PlayStation LifeStyle, a sister site to SuperHeroHype, recently reviewed Hellboy Web of Wyrd. Despite art direction reminiscent of Mignola’s comics, Leri found the rest of the game fell flat. Leri noted that game’s “sticky brawling mechanics, repetitive level design, and extremely low difficulty,” saying it “feels like an unfinished game that was early on its journey to greatness.”

Hellboy Web of Wyrd is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
