Neverwinter: Spelljammer showcased many fan-favorite elements of the setting, including Giant Space Hamsters, in its new launch trailer.
Gearbox Publishing and Cryptic Studios dropped the new footage on YouTube of the latest Neverwinter module. The module lets players explore Wildspace on eponymous Spelljammers — large space vessels that resemble class wooden sailing ships.
Along with the setting, the update adds a new Adventure Zone, Trial, and quality improvements. Using Landing Sites, players can explore multiple new planets outside Faerûn. Players can also join timed battles against the Xaryxian Empire at special Invasion sites.
The press release included a teaser for the plot.
“In Spelljammer, reports of falling stars across all of Toril has led Lord Neverember to summon adventurers to investigate this ill omen,” it reads. “However, while bolstering the city’s defenses, the city of Neverwinter is struck by an astral seed – leading to an assault from Astral Elves of the Xaryxian Empire. During this battle, a spelljammer ship, the Moondancer arrives with the offer of assistance against his deadly empire and departs to Wildspace. Alongside the crew of the Moondancer, you’ll need to journey to various planets and convince the inhabitants to ally against the Xaryxian Empire and save Toril!”
D&D’s Classic Spelljammer Arrives in Neverwinter
Neverwinter: Spelljammer includes features based on the Dungeons & Dragons setting of the same name. Originally released as a 2nd edition setting, developer Wizards of the Coast revived it in 2022. Spelljammer: Adventures in Space launched with three books: Astral Adventurer’s Guide, Boo’s Astral Menagerie, and Light of Xaryxis. While the fifth edition version inspired Neverwinter, its Spelljammer has an original story separate from D&D.
Neverwinter: Spelljammer is available now for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. While built for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Neverwinter is optimized to run on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
