Back in January, DC released the seventh and final issue of its critically-acclaimed Dark Nights: Death Metal miniseries. The series was notably accompanied by its own soundtrack, with a diverse selection of new songs finding their way online over the last year. Now, the full album is available to stream or purchase on all digital platforms. DC and Loma Vista Recordings have announced the official release of Dark Nights: Death Metal’s musical companion piece.
The soundtrack was executive produced by Tyler Bates, the composer of John Wick and Guardians of the Galaxy. Bates enlisted a wide array of artists spanning multiple different genres to contribute songs to the project. Leading the pack is Mastodon, whose “Forged by Neron” graces the very top of the tracklist. Bates himself also appears on HEALTH’s “ANTI-LIFE,” which notably features Deftones frontman Chino Moreno. Additionally, the album includes seven previously unreleased songs by Soccer Mommy, IDLES, Show Me The Body, and others.

Dark Nights: Death Metal serves as a continuation of storylines that began in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Dark Nights: Metal in 2017. For the follow-up, Snyder and Capullo expanded the influence of the Dark Multiverse in a Crisis-level crossover event. DC also released a series of animated shorts where a number of the soundtrack’s artists voiced different DC characters. Andy Black of Black Veil Brides and Chelsea Wolfe starred as Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively. Additionally, DC recruited David Hasselhoff to voice Superman.
For anyone who prefers a physical copy, DC is also planning to release the Dark Nights: Death Metal soundtrack on vinyl on July 16. You can check out the full cover art below.
