Yet another acclaimed novelist is joining the Marvel bullpen, and he’s about to tackle a new solo adventure starring the Ever-Lovin’ Blue-Eyed Thing. Marvel has announced that Walter Mosley will pen a new six-issue miniseries starring Ben Grimm, with the first issue slated to arrive this fall.
This isn’t the first time The Thing has headlined his own series. In the early ‘80s, John Byrne and Ron Wilson launched a starring vehicle that lasted more than 30 issues. Years later, Dan Slott and artistAndrea Di Vito kicked off their own Thing series in 2005. But for his latest story, Mosley and artist Tom Reilly will send Ben “on a sojourn that will have him confronting—and battling—figures both old and new.” The ensuing journey will also take him “from the urban sprawl of the alleys of Manhattan to the furthest reaches of the cosmos itself.”

Mosley is best known for his crime fiction novels, particularly those that star hard-boiled detective Easy Rawlins. The latest book to feature Rawlins, Blood Grove, hit stores earlier this year. Mosley has also written several novels starring other fictional detectives, including Fearless Jones and Leonid McGill.
Although he’s primarily worked in prose fiction, Mosley has dabbled in the Marvel Universe before. In 2005, he compiled Maximum Fantastic Four, a coffee table book that blows up every panel of Fantastic Four #1 and gives it its own page.
The Thing #1 hits comic shops in November. You can check out the first issue’s cover below.
