There is a proud tradition of characters created for DC‘s adaptations making their way into the comics. Harley Quinn is perhaps the most famous example, but Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen first appeared in a radio show. Now, a character originally created for Green Lantern: The Animated Series has made their way into the Green Lantern comics.
Green Lantern #6 by Jeremy Adams, Xermanico, and Scott Godlweksi was largely concerned with a battle between Hal Jordan and Sinestro. Jordan was unable to stop his greatest enemy from fleeing the Earth. Dejected, Jordan returned home, where someone was waiting for him.
Jordan was greeted by an alien named Razer, who affirmed his status as an old friend. Razer then asked why Hal was talking to a ring construct of the Green Lantern Kilowog. This set up the shocking twist that the Kilowog seemingly sharing a trailer with Hal Jordan on Earth was not real. However, this revelation was just as surprising as the appearance of Razer, who had previously only appeared in various cartoons.
The History of Razer Explained
A native of the planet Volkreg, Razer joined a militia to fight the corrupt warlords that threatened his village. When he returned home, Razer discovered his wife had been murdered. His rage at this injustice made him a prime recruit for the Red Lantern Corps. Despite being controlled by his anger, Razer still had a noble heart, and he rejected the mindless violence encouraged by the Red Lantern leaders.
This led him to join forces with the Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Kilowog. It also led him to find love again with Aya, an artificial intelligence who modeled her physical body on Razer’s wife. The series ended with Razer leaving his Green Lantern allies to search for the apparently deceased Aya and his newfound hope attracting a hope-empowered Blue Lantern ring.
A different version of Razer with a similar background appeared in the Young Justice animated series. This version of Razer was able to wield the rings of the Red Lanterns and Blue Lanterns simultaneously. This rare feat has only been equaled by a few Green Lanterns in the comics.
It remains to be seen what the background of the Razer of the Dawn of DC comics is. He does not appear to have any Lantern Corps rings on his person when he visits Hal Jordan. In any case, with Sinestro now tapping the Red power of Rage, Razer’s knowledge and experience could prove invaluable.
Green Lantern #6 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
