Marvel Comics has revealed artist Mahmud Asrar‘s variant cover for next year’s Edge of Spider-Verse #1.
Edge of Spider-Verse begins anew in February to introduce even more Spider-Man variants from across the multiverse. Asrar’s Foil Variant Cover for issue #1 features some of the usual suspects — including Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Ghost-Spider (aka Spider-Gwen), Spider-Byte, and Cyborg Spider-Man. The cover also features Weapon VIII — an X-Men-themed Spider-person set to debut within the issue — as well as a “spooky all-new Spider-Hero who has yet to be announced.”

The next iteration of Edge of Spider-Verse #1 hails from writers Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Nilah Magruder — who join artists Travel Foreman and Eric Gapstur. Marvel promises that readers “won’t believe how the Web of Life and Destiny impacts Spider-Man storytelling this time as the possibilities of the Spider-Verse are unleashed in full!”
An official synopsis for the issue — which kicks off a new four-issue limited series — reads as follows: “The now perennial Spider-Hit is back as we start the build to the biggest Spider-Versal story we’ve EVER DONE! We all know who Weapon X is, but WHO IS WEAPON VIII?! In their universe, when Weapon X escapes from his facility, they call on their greatest previous success to get him back. SPIDER-BYTE RETURNS! You may not have realized that the digital avatar Spider-Character who made her big screen debut in Across the Spider-Verse came from the comics first! She’s back in comics now and you don’t want to miss her!”
The legacy of Edge of Spider-Verse
Edge of Spider-Verse originally launched as a five-issue limited series in 2014 as part of the larger “Spider-Verse” event. The anthology-style book offers glimpses into various different realities across the Marvel multiverse. The initial 2014 incarnation is notable for introducing now-fan-favorite characters like Spider-Gwen and Peni Parker.
Marvel released a second five-issue Edge of Spider-Verse series in 2022, followed by a four-issue one in 2023. This past October, the publisher announced plans for yet another four-issue iteration — with Kelly, Lanzing, and Foreman at the helm.
Edge of Spider-Verse #1 goes on sale February 21, 2024 from Marvel Comics. The issue features a main cover by Chad Hardin.
