Dark Horse Comics has dished on the Silver Sponsor title it’s putting out for Free Comic Book Day 2024 this May.
Dark Horse previously revealed unfinished cover art for its FCBD 2024 Silver title, revealing that a story based on the Disney+ animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures would headline the comic. The book also features a backup story from the world of Plants vs. Zombies.
The Oregon-based publisher has now offered additional details (as well as revealed the final cover art). The Star Wars story, titled Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures – Sky Parade Rescue, comes from writer Daniel José Older, artist Andy Duggan, colorist Dan Jackson, and lettering studio Comicraft. Dark Horse promises that the tale will see the younglings from Young Jedi Adventures — including cover star Nubs — cross paths with characters from its own Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comics.
Meanwhile, Plants vs. Zombies: The Origin of Zomboss hails from writer Paul Tobin, artist Lusia Russo, colorist Heather Breckel, and letterer Steve Dutro. In this video game-based short story, “a Brain-Z Entertainment film crew explores the many past jobs of Dr. Zomboss and what led to him forming a zombie army.”

What else to expect from Free Comic Book Day 2024
Of course, the Star Wars/Plants vs. Zombies special isn’t the only release Dark Horse has in store for Free Comic Book Day this year. The publisher is also putting out a Gold Sponsor title headlined by its flagship character, Hellboy. That book includes a backup story from the world of Netflix’s Stranger Things.
Furthermore, Dark Horse isn’t the only publisher venturing to the galaxy far, far away for FCBD 2024. Marvel Comics recently offered a first look inside its own Silver Sponsor title Free Comic Book Day 2024: Star Wars/Darth Vader #1. That book promises to help set the stage for Marvel’s next wave of Star Wars comics.
Free Comic Book Day 2024 takes place on Saturday, May 4.
