The rivalry between Superman and Lex Luthor is one of the most famous in all of comics. While the two have been known to join forces to face a common foe, it is still a rare event. Superman #12 is such an event, with the Man of Steel and Luthor teaming together to save Metropolis.
The current Superman monthly, written by Joshua Williamson, with art by David Baldeon and Norm Rapmund, centers around this unlikely partnership. The series started with an imprisoned Lex Luthor handing control of his company to the Man of Steel. The revamped SuperCorp was instructed to assist him in protecting the world. Unfortunately, this coincided with the rise of a new threat.
Lex Luthor Revenge Squad Explained
Doctor Pharm and Mister Graft were two new villains with a grudge against Lex Luthor. They formed a Lex Luthor Revenge Squad, recruiting others who wanted to see Luthor humbled. This included Lex Luthor’s own mother, whom he kept hidden away from the world in a secret island home, along with his daughter. Their final strike came with the release of a new form of Kryptonite that was as lethal to humans as it was to Superman. It was a weapon that Luthor had created but never used.
Now, with his doomsday weapon released, Lex Luthor faces his darkest hour. It is not in his nature to be selfless, but neither is he inclined to go without a fight. He has already lost his family, his reputation, his fortune, his company, and his freedom. Might the self proclaimed Man of Tomorrow go so far as to lose his life to help Superman save their city?
