Summer is associated with sun, surf, and swimsuits. Comic publishers often celebrate this time of year with variant covers featuring superheroes enjoying the sun. DC is no different, releasing eight variant covers featuring characters like Nightwing, Harley Quinn, and Wonder Woman.
Releasing throughout the month of August, most of the covers will be tied to regular monthly series. The sole exception to this is a cover for the upcoming Gotham City Sirens #1. This four-part DC miniseries, which runs weekly throughout August, features a team-up between Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy. However, the swimsuit cover only features Harley Quinn.
DC Assembles All-Star Artists For Swimsuit Covers
There are a number of impressive artists working on the DC Swimsuit Covers. Most of them are mainstays of the variant cover market, such as fan-favorite Frank Cho. Another notable artist is Guillem March, who is most famous for their work on Gotham City Sirens. However, March is producing the cover for August’s Wonder Woman #12.
Olivier Coipel’s cover features Batman in the middle of a workout, with Alfred Pennyworth in tow. Mirka Andolfo produced an image of Wally West running on water while racing a pod of dolphins for The Flash #12. Saowee shows the Teen Titans enjoying a day at the beach on the cover for Titans #14.
Dick Grayson flies solo on Belén Ortega’s cover for Nightwing #117, caught in mid-leap trying to kick a beach ball. Finally, Clark Kent poses heroically, yet modestly, in his classic red trunks and yellow belt, on Elizabeth Torque’s cover for Superman #17.
